Ilford to Italy
Ilford to Italy
Between an Ilford street and an Italian front door a removals vehicle passes four gates, each controlled by somebody different. None of them can be opened on the day.
- The Ilford street Redbridge
- A dispensation or a suspended bay for the loading day, applied for with notice. Identical to any local move here, and the first thing settled.
- The Alpine crossing The tunnel operators, and the season
- Mont Blanc, Fréjus or the Gotthard and Simplon tunnels each restrict vehicle size and what may pass through them, and passes close in bad conditions. The coast road past Ventimiglia is the alternative, and sometimes the better answer anyway.
- The historic centre The comune
- Most Italian town centres are restricted-traffic zones, camera-enforced. Access is arranged in advance for a window on a named day; where it is not granted, the delivery shuttles from a legal holding point outside the zone.
- The last two hundred metres Geometry
- A track to a restored farmhouse, a hill-town street, a courtyard gate. The postcode says nothing about it, so we ask for a description of the final approach — and where we cannot establish it, we plan a transfer rather than hope.
North, centre and south
- The north
- Milan, Turin, the lakes and the Veneto. Mostly apartment work, mostly job-related.
- The centre
- Tuscany, Umbria and Le Marche — restored farmhouses, unmade approaches, stone stairs.
- The south
- The longest road run we make into Italy, and the one that most rewards a shared load.
italy-removals.co.uk in our network is built for this corridor alone and covers the regions in far more depth.
Ilford to Italy — questions
What is a ZTL?
A zona a traffico limitato — a camera-enforced restricted-traffic zone covering most historic centres. Access is arranged with the comune in advance, or the delivery shuttles from outside it.
Paperwork?
A codice fiscale, proof of the Italian address, evidence you are transferring residence rather than importing to sell, and an inventory matching the load.
Alps or coast?
You are told which the quote assumes and why. Destination, vehicle, season and what the passes are doing all bear on it.
Sicily or Sardinia?
Mainland Italy by road, the full length. Islands add a sea leg — ask and we will say plainly whether we are the right firm.
Shared load?
Yes, and on a route this long it takes meaningful cost out. The trade-off is scheduling.
Moving to Italy?
Send both addresses. If the Italian one is in a historic centre, say so — it is the first thing we check.
